Biography :

Dr. SK Pal is currently working as Assistant Director in the Department of Biology and Serology at Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), Northern Range, Dharamshala, India which caters for the needs of people of three districts. Dr. Pal joined RFSL in 2010. He is performing routine scientific/technical experiments in the laboratory by examining cases of sexual assaults/rape, homicide, suicide/suicidal hanging, blood, semen, bones for age, sex, stature, wood examination, wild life forensics, and diatoms (ante-mortem and postmortem drowning), hair/fiber etc pertaining to crime cases of varied nature. In addition, He has to depose expert testimony in the Courts of law on the results of the analysis and scientific reports submitted and signed by him and subsequently to keep liaison with law enforcement agencies. He is well conversant with criminal trends and advanced forensics techniques and technologies. Dr. Pal has earned his Doctorate in Biological Anthropology from Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India and Masters in Biological Anthropology with specialization in Forensic Anthropology. Dr. Pal is Head of the Biology and Serology Division and handling all scientific and administrative matters of the division. He assigned laboratory duties, manage and supervise case work, reporting results, testifying and explaining procedures to scientific staff, and evaluate performance of the subordinates. He is responsible for purchase of chemicals and instruments for the division. Dr. Pal is an anthropologist and having the potential and qualities to maintain effective working relationships and channelize their energy towards best pursuits. Dr. Pal is Media Officer, Nodal Officer, Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Cell of RFSL, Dharamshala and Official Facebook page of Directorate of Forensic Science, Himachal Pradesh is being regularly updated and monitored by him which is widely acclaimed and acknowledged by the scientific fraternity. Dr. Pal had been the Public Information Officer (PIO) for Right to Information (RTI) Act of RFSL for two years. He is Member of Editorial Board/Editor and Reviewer of various National and International peer reviewed Journals and reviewed articles. He delivered regular Radio Talk to All India Radio (AIR), Dharamshala, India regarding importance of forensics. Dr. Pal is also involved in crime scene investigation (CSI). He has visited and examined about 100 scenes of crime (SOC) spots, collected clues/physical evidences from the crime scenes, and written and submitted detailed reports to the investigation agencies. He has extensive knowledge regarding evidence gathering and handling as he has dealt with sexual assaults, homicides, suicides, burglaries, robberies, deaths, and thefts cases. He has experience of planning and undertaking practical crime scenes, crime scenes management and investigations. Dr. Pal has solved many crime mysteries for which he had been awarded appreciation letter from the Director, Directorate of Forensic Science, Himachal Pradesh, India. Dr. SK Pal gained seven years of experience in teaching and training (theoretical and practical demonstrations) to the Graduate, Post-graduate students of College and Universities, and Investigation Officers of the Police, Judiciary and Public Prosecutors. Dr. Pal has more than 30 national and international publications and out of which 10 are in the field of forensic biology. He has avid interest in the field of forensic biology/serology and anthropology. Dr. Pal has teaching experience and ability of writing grants, writing and editing scientific communications, reports, manuscripts, seek and secure external funding including the preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies. He has the experience of presenting research at academic seminars and national and international conferences, and collaborate with other research staff both within and outside the University. He has the potential to undertake independent scholarly research and professional activities, with a view to publishing original and innovative findings through national and international refereed journals. Being Anthropologist, Dr. Pal has the ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting and experience teaching and working with highly diverse communities.
