Dr. Ben-Azu Benneth

Affiliation :
University of Ibadan,Nigeria

Biography :

Ben-Azu Benneth is a Dr of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT). He holds B.Sc degree in Physiology and Pharmacology as the graduating student of his class from the College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. He also holds M.Sc and Ph.D degrees in Pharmacology and Therpeutics with specialty in Neuropharmacology from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. Dr Ben-Azu’s goal is to develop models and new therapies for both neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases. His research areas over the past 6 years have been on Neuropharmacology, Neurotransmitter modulations, Cellular oxidative stress and Neuroinflammatory Mechanisms as well as Nutraceuticals as prophylactics agents. Specifically, he passionately, I employ laboratory experiments, develop models, analyze and interpret behavioral and molecular data sets from different experimental techniques to better understand underlying pathophysiological underpinnings and treatment implications of Neuropsychiatric diseases; generating insights to inform hypothesis as well as real time clinical applications/treatments in the areas of Neuropharmacology. At the moment, he is focused on the following neuropsychiatric diseases: Schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Depression, Stress-induced nervous disorders; to which he applies his skills on behavioral assessments to test for naturally occurring and synthetic bioflavonoid compounds, herbal products and food supplements and their possible underlying mechanisms of action. The main thrust of the line of investigation of Dr Ben-Azu has been to elucidate the patho-mechansims of Schizophrenia pathology as well as the underlying mechanisms of action of therapeutic agents. Worthy of note, his scientific impact globally in the area of Schizophrenia research has been recognized. His Ph.D work was awarded a scientific research value for an award of publication of articles from his Ph.D Thesis by the Postgraduate School of the University of Ibadan. Also, at his young age, he is a recipient of other local and international awards. Recently, he was given an award of recognition by the Nigerian Pharmacology Student Association (NIPSA) for his role in the growth and development of basic Pharmacology in Nigeria. He is also a recipient of the Elsevier Reviewer Recognition award from the Editors of Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy, Elsevier, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Dr Ben-Azu holds many reviewer responsibilities both nationally and internationally.
