Dr. Zhenwei SONG

Biography :

Dr. Zhenwei Song received his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Sun Yat-sen University in 2014.  In October 2016, he joined the University of Utah as a research associate and worked on immunotherapy against pancreatic cancer with GO-derived nanoparticles and Trastuzumab.  In May 2018, he relocated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and joined Dr. Hua Mei’s lab in the Department of Ophthalmology. His research aims to establish a reliable stem cell resource for corneal epithelium transplantation and regeneration.  Towards this goal, his current focus is on identifying cell markers for limbal stem cells by Single Cell RNA Sequencing.

Research Interest :

The primary research interest of Dr. Zhenwei Song are regenerative stem cells including induced pluripotent stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells and limbal stem cell. He investigates the basic mechanism on cell reprogramming and differentiate regulation, and he study the application of stem cells for regeneration medicine.
